About the Shine the Light Soccer Tournament

Shine the Light is an ALL-GIRLS Soccer tournament hosted in London Ontario.  The premise behind this ALL-GIRLS tournament is to support the actions and programming behind many initiatives of keeping girls in sport. Ontario Soccer and Respect in Sport has made this a key principle in the growing of the sport while raising awareness of Human Trafficking and Abuse Against Women.   "A Strong Tournament...with a Strong Message."

Whitecaps London have teamed up with London Abused Women’s Centre and named the tournament after their cause named SHINE THE LIGHT. Proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the SHINE THE LIGHT Campaign. More information on this campaign and the London Absued Women’s Centre can be found here: www.lawc.on.ca

The goals of the Shine the Light on Woman Abuse campaign are to raise awareness of men’s violence against women by turning communities purple for the month of November; to stand in solidarity with abused women and support them in understanding that any shame and/or blame they may feel does not belong to them but to the perpetrators of their abuse; and to raise the profile of the community agencies that can provide abused women with help as they attempt to live their lives free from violence and abuse. Purple is a symbol of courage, survival, and honour, and has come to symbolize the fight to end woman abuse.
